The Mayor of the Municipality of Sofia, Bulgaria, Yordanka Fandakova signed a contact with the Greek consortium Aktor-Helektor for the construction of a waste treatment plant in the city. The facility will also produce refuse-derived fuel (RDF), according to the Sofia Municipality press office.
The contract was signed after being given the green light by the European Commission. In a letter sent by the Commission, it was confirmed that the project conformed with European law and had not violated any legislation. The Ministry of Environment and Water in Bulgaria has also approved the plant, which should take about 19 months to complete.
